We’ve written about this mind-boggling museum before in our “Top LA Attractions” post, but it bears repeating: A visit to the Getty Museum is an otherworldly plunge into history, architecture, and the mind-expanding pleasures of fine art. Occupying a stunning hilltop site north of Santa Monica, this world-class museum serves as a living reminder why Los Angeles is one of the nation’s—and the world’s—preeminent cultural destinations. Admission is free; parking is typically $20.

Voted #10 out of 300 public Japanese gardens in North America, this stunningly landscaped park is an oasis of serenity. From traditional Japanese handcrafts like Ichimonji tiles to the “Heavenly Floating” and “ZigZag” bridges crossing the tranquil pond, there’s no shortage of beautiful details to please the eye and calm the mind. Come to think of it, sounds a lot like something else we love.

There’s free parking at the CBS parking structure, and if you go once, you’ll probably find it’s way too easy to burn a few happy hours strolling among all the edible greenery!

The Skirball counts itself one of the world’s most dynamic Jewish cultural institutions, and it occupies a special place among Los Angeles’ leading cultural venues. Part museum, part educational facility and part performance center, the Skirball welcomes visitors of any religious faith or cultural tradition; we think it’s one of the city’s hidden treasures.
